I think that just as with any handmade head, each is different, but his are very well made, and expertly cut. I got to play his entire stock of heads over the summer while I was in Vermont learning flute repair from him, and each one was a great head. Obviously, some worked better for me than others (I picked out three that I particularly liked...2 silvers and a gold), but as long as you've played the head you're looking at, and you like it, there should be no problem. I plan to buy one of his titanium heads shortly after the new year (gift money should allow me to finish saving). I got to play his personal flute (which was FANTASTIC aside from the inline G), with his personal titanium head, and those heads are amazing.

His heads to me have more of that old french sound to them and not as modern as some of the other makes that are out on the market right now. Mr. Landell is such a wonderful person and flute maker. If you give him a call, he will help you find the headjoint that will suite you best as he does offer different styles. If you can get the # that is engraved on the particular headjoint that you are interested in, then he can let you know everything you might need to know about it. I just can't say enough about him and his son. What a wonderful pair! Check out his web site if you haven't already. There is a lot of good info on there.
