I've been playing the same flute for 3 years now and the cork is all messed up. My band director put it back in it's place and somehow it won't stay in that place. Yes she used a tuning rod because Crystal River Music didn't give me a cleaning or tuning rod. My mom is thinking about getting it checked out by that company or just flat out buying a new one. Which would you guys prefer? I thought it would be better if i held sort of like a pole saying buy another one or just get it checked out.

Thanks,

What brand is the flute you are playing on now and I can tell you if it is worth getting fixed or just buying a new one. There are several off brands out there that once they break it is all over and not worth it.

The cork is a very easy thing to have fixed and to have it replaced should only cost you a few dollars. In the mean time, you can take a small amount of masking tape around the cork untill you get the right fit as where it is not falling out. You are going to need a tuning rod though to put it back into the correct spot. I highly suggest picking one up at a music store. They should only be under $5. How are you cleaning your flute if you don't have one?

I should also add that I the masking tape thing is a short fix and should not be used for a long period of time. You should see the pictures that another member (Jbuky) and posted of impoperly fitted corks and the results. It was gross!

Oops.. I meant JBuTcky. Sorry about that Joe.

Ugh! Wrong again it is JButky. (Comming from the worlds worst speller!)

lol i have a gemeinhardt and i attempt to wrap the cloth around a pencil or pen and clean it. thanks 4 the help. Crystal River Music is a music shop and when my mom went there to get a cleaning and tuning rod for a flute they said they didn't know there was a cleaning and tuning rod for flutes so instead they gave me double of what i already had.

That is a fine flute as long as it is in proper working condition. Did you get it new or used? There are other type of swabs that can be used to clean the flute besides the cleaning rod, so check to see if the music store gave you one of those. I am sure you would notice if they did, but I am just checking.
