Hi everyone!

I've been playing the flute since I was 8 (am now 30, good grief time flies!) but stopped for 10 years and have only just picked it up again, and boy does it do me good! I have a Buffet Crampon, my first flute, that never got serviced in all its life and is now past it...so I bought a second hand Arbiter Prosound, not nearly as good as my Buffet but at least it plays all the notes! At least, I think it does...with slow scales it's fine, but as soon as I start playing a piece, especially anything faster than Andante, I lose ALL sound in notes from G-D in the second octave! Never happened before...is this because I got into bad habits with my old flute, a problem of technique or a prob with the flute, like pads needing replacing? I really hope its just me and not the flute!
It was great to see those Youtube clips of James Galway - he was always my hero when I was younger, and those clips reminded me why! Brought a tear to me eye...

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I would recommend that you take your flute into a good repair tech before anything to rule out anything wrong with the flute. A good private teacher is always helpful too.

Flutes are just like cars. They need some mechanical care from time to time.

Thanks a lot for your help! The problem is actually on the 'new' Arbiter, not my Buffet...I'll take it to have it serviced. Bit of a drag cos I bought it cheap one for budget reasons, and it was supposed to be in "excellent condition"; if I now have to fork out goodness knows how many Euros for an overhaul it really wasn't such a bargain! France tends to be really expensive for this kind of thing...oh well. Last time I use Ebay for something so important!

Is it possible that it's a result of bad blowing habits?
