Zevang,
WOW! I almost got the chance to play Firebird Suite last term, since I was the substitute for the performance last fall (I played Lieutenant Kije). I told the principal that while I really enjoyed it, if the music were more difficult and I would have only two rehearsals within a week before the performance, maybe I'm not the one to play. Usually our orchestra has 5 or 6 weeks of once-a-week rehearsals, but last time I was called 5 days before the performance. Thank God for recordings! So my friend played Firebird instead. I am in AWE of musicians who can take music like this and put it together in four rehearsals.
I am learning more about how I learn, especially with music and language. And also getting driving directions! I really must have something in my head before I can take it in. If you give me a new Spanish vocabulary word, it must either be repeated a LOT (not very effective) or I need to write it down and use it written. Driving directions turn immediately to mud, unless I am very familiar to a place. While someone gives me spoken directions, I 'see' a video in my head, and usually get part of the 'picture' wrong and so get lost- because I don't 'hear' them telling me which direction to turn, or the street number, or the name of the street, even- they go in one ear and out the other. Music works in a similar way; I have to get the music in my head so I 'know' what it sounds like, my part as well as the rest of the ensemble. So I'm not so great at sight reading, but a lot of scale work has helped me 'know where I'm going' and I'm getting better.
Hey, I LOVED 'The Incredibles', both the movie and the music. And Amazing Grace (are you playing Frank Tichelli's arrangement?) is lovely. It is not technically difficult, but can be beautiful if you really pay attention to pitch and the dynamics shape the phrases.

yesterday was great.
Among the other peaces, Fire Bird Suite was just stunning, closing the program, theatre completelly full, the public loved it.
If I just had the chance to record it, I'd show you how it was.
Traditionally, the listeners can go to the stage after the concert ends. I saw people with open mouths, commenting about the performance, comparing it to the greatests orchestral groups around the world.
I'm a little suspicious to say this, but I have to agree that the results were due to hard work, and the capability of our new director (by the way he's from USA, Ira Levin).
All this was acomplished in 4 rehearsal days.
cheers,

~Awesome! Our arrangement has got a great flute part to it. Was yours arranged by John Ber-? (page got cut off there.)

~The Incredibles flute part has a few solos in it, but because of the tempo, it doesn't last very long. At one point, all the other flutes didnt turn up, so i had to play it on my own as well as a few other songs. It was fun and i got a lot of (positive) comments from every1!
No, we're playing Paul Lavenders Arrangement. <Added>No, we're playing Paul Lavenders Arrangement..
..to amazing grace

Philipinoguy, ideed you're right. Thanks for the compliment. The results are wonderful when you have all musicians concentrated in what should be done, and the director manage to incourage all to play with no fear. Besides conducting, the director has the major job of dealing with people, oh boy, I can say that's not easy... :-)
cheers,
Zevang
