I played my piccolo in front of a tuner today. All my notes are somewhat in tune. But when I play my flute in front of my tuner, the needle goes crazy. I just rescently got my picc(a noname brand) a month ago, while as I got my flute(a Jupiter) about 6 months ago. It makes me wonder if i'm tuning my flute wrong.

If the needle is going crazy while you're just holding a straight tone (no vibrato), you haven't learned to control your air enough to really correct pitch anyway. You should be able to hold the needle still (or very nearly still), which means a very even and controlled airstream. You won't be able to get the needle to go crazy just by tuning your flute incorrectly, though it may show that your pitch is quite a bit off, and not consistent in which way it's off.

I meant that the needle goes crazy when I switch from note to note. But when I swithch from note to note on piccolo, it doesn't move as much.

keep in mind that those tuners sometimes seem to pick up overtones, which may make picc hard to read, also, if your tone is ever airy on picc, it will not stay still...

I like to record intervals on my digital piano, then match them...
