what do you guys know abut the burkart global piccolo? im considering buying either that, a boston legacy (im currently playing on an emerson ep6), or a used hammig. there seems to be more critical review on the bl and the hammig, but not so much on the global. so, in short, what are your opinions/info?

I play tested the Burkart Global and the Boston Legacy Ironwood and found the Burkart had a sweeter sound and better intonation than the Boston Legacy. The Global also comes with a split e mechanism that the Boston Legacy does not have. The Boston Legacy just seemed too dead in sound for my taste and the key placement was not very comfortable to me. I ended up purchasing the Burkart-Phelan B-PE piccolo, the step-up to the Global, which I love! I have not had any experience with the Hammig so I can not say anything about that one.
It ultimatly comes down to what feels and sounds best to you, the player. So you should try out as many brands as you can to make sure you get the one that is just right for you. Good luck in your piccolo hunt!

Very good piccolo. I used to own one before switching to the handmade. It has such a great scale on it. I played on a Yamaha before that and had horrible problems with the scale and was so happy to swich! On my handmade I did not get a split E on it and I can honestly say I don't miss it and could not tell the difference.

they are both excellent, just depends what feels good to you, I actually used a burkhart on a recording for a movie soundtrack and it worked well...
