The Sankyo web site describes their headjoints, but doesn't provide sufficient information to answer your question.

It looks to me like an NRS-1 because of the the way the lip plate is slightly raised up right near the embouchure.

I tend to agree. Most Sankyos come with an NRS-1. In the old days they came with a wing lip plate..

Kara is right, most likely to be the NRS-1. But as being an older model flute, like the silversonic, I think it also can be the RS-1, that BTW originated the other one.

Haha patrick...i totally agree with you..

PS: I didn't mention anything about me not liking the asymmetrical cut

Any has any idea when NRS-1s started production?

I'd really like to narrow down between RS1 and NRS-1 for now

Thanks guys...really appreciate it alot

What's your objective? If identified, are you considering purchasing one?

Frummer, the embouchure hole on my NRS-1 is more oval than this one. I would say the hole on yours is rounder than mine. The shape of the lip plate is very similar.
My NRS-1 came by itself, not with a flute. It has 'NRS1' stamped on the lipplate, on the flute side rather than the cork side. If this is confusing, hold the headjoint up to your mouth with your left hand, as if to play it. Put your right hand finger on the top surface of the headjoint tube, and slide it to the left until it touches the lipplate. Your finger will be touching the place that my headjoint is stamped NRS1. (My Miyazawa HJ has MZ5 stamped in the same spot.)
Handcut headjoints can differ from each other, one may play great and another of the same cut may be just OK or spectacular. If you like an NRS1 you might order 3 or 4 to try. If the headjoint is available and you really like it, just buy it. (The asymmetrical aspect might be what makes it good!)

Hmm alright...i did not find any marks regarding the cut the last time i had it in my hands...maybe i just wasn't observant enough.

I shall go check it out later at night during practice! thanks for the tip!

close your eyes, and go with how it sounds and feels, otherwise you will make yourself crazy, by the way, most hand made headjoints seem to be asymetrical
