Hi All! I've just recently started playing the flute. I've played Bb clarinet for several years and also play alto clarinet. I've dabbled with alto sax, as well. I am getting a decent tone on my flute, especially for a beginner. So, on a whim, I decided to also pick up a piccolo. I can barely, and sometimes can't, get a sound out of it. If I'm just using the headjoint to produce a tone, I'm fine, but once I attach it to the rest of the piccolo, the tone disappears, almost. Is this normal? Should I put the piccolo on a shelf for a while, until I've worked more and learned the flute? Thanks in advance!

I would give yourself more time on the flute getting a good embouchure before starting off the piccolo, though others may disagree.

Thanks! That's what I thought, too. I'll try that!

i agree. i know people who have been playing the flute for years and still have trouble getting the picc. sound. all though some may not agree the piccolo is a totally diffrent instrament to the flute. good luck!
