A while ago I posted about purchasing a new flute. I selected a Muramatsu EX. I then wondered if where I was buying it was an authorized dealer because my flute does not come with a case cover. I got curious and called Muramatsu America and I have been in contact with Muramatsu America today and I have discovered that it is not an authorized dealer. What do I do now??? I have not purchased the flute yet, just put down a deposit due to other circumstances.

taken right from the muramatsu america webapge:

How does un-authorized affect me?
Your flute may be pitched sharp for this market, the spring tension may be different, the cut may be different. Customs and duties may not have been paid on these flutes, you may not receive a paid invoice, appraisal, nor factory warranty from the seller. You may not receive all the items that come with a new flute such as a case cover, etc. Your flute will be subject to a repair surcharge.

if you havent bought the flute yet, take your deposit back (make up a lie why... they dont need to know) and contact muramatsu america to buy your new flute. theyre really nice people there.

it also says later on the page:

What's the big deal about importing?
When something is manufactured in a country other than the United States, you are subject to customs and duties charges. Muramatsu America pays all customs and duties charges on every flute we import. This means that all the proper paperwork has been filed with the United States government, and your flute is not in jeopardy of being repossessed.

My flute could be repossessed?
If it is determined that customs and duties charges were not paid by an un-authorized seller, it is possible that your flute could be repossessed, or you could be responsible for customs and duty charges

I was surprised to see that wwbw sells them, even though they are not an authorized dealer. However, they do have a disclaimer, & substantial discounted price.

Just to be on the safe side, I would go get your deposit back and buy it through Muramatsu America. I bought my DS through them and was very happy.
