Yesterday I had my year audition. I had decided to play the easiest piece still acceptable for my level and chose the first movement (Adagio) from the Haendel Hallen I sonata. Originally I wanted to play also the next Allegro, but I still did not feel safe with a couple of fast scales in it.

Anyway, I added the difficulty (and pleasure) of playing with a pre-recorded live Basso continuo.

I am very happy with the results; and though the piece was simple, I still feel this an accomplishment.

I did have some problems, because the accompaniment sounded too low in volume and I could hardly hear it, so I was slightly out of tempo for a couple of measures. But I could adjust and this was also an important accomplishment.

Also, I had the opportunity of comparing my sound and tuning with those of other students (under the same stressful conditions of playing with public) and this reinforced my self esteem.

May be I should no be saying all this, I know it sounds too much self-praising, but I am happy and I just wanted to share my happiness with you.

Next audition is on Saturday. This time, it is singing; I will sing "Stars" from musical Les Misérables. I can do it reasonably well, but the (school) production is so chaotic that I will need all the good luck you can wish me.

Congratulations! Your audition was quite an accomplishment, and inasmuch as I have not yet played in any auditions or even in public I certainly do look up to you and your achievement.

And you can sing too?? Great! Good luck with your next audition!!

Thank you for your good wishes!

The school concert took place yesterday and was quite successful. We all performed well, there were no big problems and we had lots of fun. Someone made a video of the complete musical, if I get a copy, I will try to post my part in youtube and post a link here.

I must confess I have come only recently to love musicals. My first one I ever saw was Evita in Broadway, quite a few years ago, it was such a deep emotion that I did not want to repeat the experience for a long time.
Then came The Phantom of the Opera (in London). I got so much interested that later I started learning sing. In the school we sang a few songs from The Phantom last year; I sang "All I ask for you". But of course we did not produce the complete musical (it was/is impossible with our resources).
This year, we advanced a notch and we sing 13 songs of Les Mis with a total of 18 singers (some of them only for the Chorus numbers).
I understand remnantpark's enthousiasm for this musical; it has everything needed to be one the most famous and popular ever. I also became interested in its genesis and history and wrote an introduction to it, which we distributed among the public. It is just one page, with concentrated information on the musical, the novel and Victor Hugo. It included the lyrics in English and its translation into Spanish for a few songs.

I could mail the paper to anyone interested, but it is in Spanish (except for the lyrics).

But I believe this thread has now got too far from the subject of a Flute Forum; it is my fault and I apologize. I invite those interested, to continue this thread at the Musicals Forum. I have been posting there in the thread "Dracula" (another Musical).

<Added>

I am afraid I was not clear in this:

The introduction is one page (with very small font....) and the lyrics and their translations make two additional pages.
