Yesterday I had my year audition. I had decided to play the easiest piece still acceptable for my level and chose the first movement (Adagio) from the Haendel Hallen I sonata. Originally I wanted to play also the next Allegro, but I still did not feel safe with a couple of fast scales in it.
Anyway, I added the difficulty (and pleasure) of playing with a pre-recorded live Basso continuo.
I am very happy with the results; and though the piece was simple, I still feel this an accomplishment.
I did have some problems, because the accompaniment sounded too low in volume and I could hardly hear it, so I was slightly out of tempo for a couple of measures. But I could adjust and this was also an important accomplishment.
Also, I had the opportunity of comparing my sound and tuning with those of other students (under the same stressful conditions of playing with public) and this reinforced my self esteem.
May be I should no be saying all this, I know it sounds too much self-praising, but I am happy and I just wanted to share my happiness with you.
Next audition is on Saturday. This time, it is singing; I will sing "Stars" from musical Les Misérables. I can do it reasonably well, but the (school) production is so chaotic that I will need all the good luck you can wish me.
