HI, I am 14, I am the only guy flute player in my high school..o well I am an excellent flute player, in opinion, and other around me, I am 2nd chair in my highchool which I just entered to give you an idea of how I am. I have played the flute for 5 years now and piccolo for 3, I played the piccolo in my band, wind ensemble, and for our competitions last year, which was a plastic model which I wish I had a moreof an intermediate modle, it was a selmer, and I have a Gemeinhardt 3SHB, with a custom M style headjoint which I got in October, and I really like gemeinhardt I played Yamaha, pearl, and armstrong, they are all the same in sound to me, but gemeinhardt is more comfortable in my hand, but anyway, since I am now in high school I want a more advanced piccolo, I do not think I am to young for this, but I want a wooden piccolo, I take good care of my instruments..kind of obsessed with keeping them in good condition, so I know i would follow anything thats needs to be dont to take care of a wooden piccolo, but I do want a wooden piccolo, probably something a little less professional, but something like a Gemeinhardt 4W, but the only problem is, I have no way to get one i juts got my new flute in Oct, and I really want one to make me more advanced i Have in my pcket about $500 thats all, does anyone know here you can get a pretty decent piccolo, for a reasonable price, or give me advice on wooden/grenadilla piccolos? Thanks

You might be able to find a used wood piccolo for $500. You might need to pay more to get it into good playing condition, however.

Will you be playing piccolo in marching band, too? If so, I would recommend sticking to a plastic/composite piccolo instead. I hear that the Pearl piccolo is just as good as (or even better than) a wood piccolo, but that's a bit over your budget.

Good luck!

YES!! They are fantastic!!I just bought one. I ended up liking it better then my wood Burkart. I sold my Burart and am now just using the Pearl. It is made of grenadite and it plays, looks and sounds just like wood but you don't have to worry about all the problems that come along with wood. I live in a humid climate and I never want to deal with having wood again! When the wood gets in a humid warm environment it expands and contracts making the tunning a bear and effects the entire third register making it close to impossible to play. I would rather have a piccolo that I can play year round, inside and outside without the hassle. This is the piccolo that I play on my youtube video.

I had a wooden piccolo in band, and it was an Artley. It played very nicely too! I only spent 500.00. I sold it in 1988. I just have no need for a piccolo now.

Yes, now I DO like Pearls piccolos. I also think that some of their top of the line models are nice. (The ones made in Japan)

Hi, I just joined the sight to try to sell my piccolo. I have an Armstrong 308, which is composite. I used it in highschool and no longer play now that I am in college. It is still in good condition, just might need to polish the keys a little but pads and all are still good..says GA music man. I am trying to sell it for $300. Let me know if you are interested...may have to throw in extra for shipping depending on where you are.
