hey there dog

I would say they're both equally hard, Jolivet is very technically hard and hard to get under the fingers and stamina wise, its very hard. But Sancan I believe is more musically challenging, and for control and sound. There is a tricky passage at the end of the sancan which is a challenge too!!

What do you think dog?

it is a moot argument, depends on the ability of the player, Damase can also be very difficult..

I am actually working on both right now...to me, the sancan is harder because of the many jumps in the technical part at the end. The Chant fits right under my fingers, and although there are a few odd parts...the sonatine seems to be a little more grueling for me.

i agree with patrick. it does depend on the player. I find the jolivet hard and the sancan quite easy. Its odd that that is the opposite to dennis!!

im playing burtons sonatina along with the jolivet and another piece for an audition and i think the jolivet is actually quite difficult. the "runs" in there have some awkward notes/fingerings that arent easy to get used to. ive only played the first movement of the sancan, so im not of much help on that one, but the first movement is usually the "middle of the road" in difficulty in sonatas, at least in my experience. the jolivet was and still is WAY more difficult at least for me.

i completely agree, i think jolivet is quite hard too, some of the "unnecessary" random fast top parts can be tricky.I love the burton sonatina, tis great fun!!! Where are u auditioning for??

changing music schools... i was offered the chance to do "beginning of the school year auditions" since i had "connections". i realized that my current school just isnt for me after my first year. besides, too expensive.

I definately think that sancan is much trickier and nigglier to fit underfingers, but jolivet is also very hard!
