I need help and fast! i have to memorise 2 pieces of music by tuesday and i got most of the first song memorised (well thought i did), and i have none of the second song memorised. i was practicing the first song yesterday, then today i looked at it and found out i was practicing the wrong octave! my grandfather is sick with prostate cancer so i couldn't practice sooner and i finally get my only chance today and i DESPIRATLY need your help! the reason i was practicing in the wrong octave is because i've been going to his house everyday and he never let me, even before he was sick, play the flute at his house so all i do is blow air through it without making the loud soud it normally does and do the fingerings (if u didn't know already, u can still hear the pitches). Just give me any advice to help me please. how i can learn fast is pretty much it. i can reach even the real high "G" but i need some advice on how to break my habit of playing the lower octave. I was so helpless i even thought of quitting band, which band is something i love to do and i want to go to college playing and possibly become a music teacher even though they dont get paid much. So please, please, PLEASE help me.

Thanks a million,
Courtney

Make sure you have the correct fingering for E6.

Then try playing D6 D#6 E6 F6 F#6 G6 until you get E6.

thanks again i know the fingerings, just used to the origional fingerings. For example, F natural, left thumb, index, MIDDLE, ring, right index and pinki. same problems w/ the others. now D,Db, and Eb aka D#, i use the normal fingering: all fingers except for left index and pinki for Eb, left thumb, middle, ring, right index, middle, ring for D natural, and right pinki for Db and it seems to come out just fine. just i have to find a way to break the habit of doing E natural and higher as the normal fingerings.

Your fingers are in the wrong octave! Try the fingerings on the link above. They will work a lot better!

Good luck!

Practice your scales. That seems to help with fingerings and tune.

As for memorizing music alot of people recommend memorizing it a phrase at a time.

Where I live we call that "Tizzling". I'm not sure what everyone else calls it. But it's a technique normally used in sight reading. (I don't use it in auditions/competitions though because i'm paranoid that I might accadently make a tone and get disqualified).

its not that hard all you have to do is blow less air! also here we just call it "air playing" lol plain and simple.

I know some people who blow out a lot of hot air, but it has nothing with playing the flute... ;-)

Wow, azfluter, good one. lol hahaha

Let me catch my breath.

Ok, Penny, without your advice this forum would be nothing. So glad you are here to help in this dire situation.

I would definitely advise against doing scales. There are many people on this forum who, by example, advise that you post your own advice as much as possible and avoid all forms of practice. They seem to believe that it works. I am skeptical but slowly being won-over.

So, my advice is to keep typing!
