I am in jazz band at Highland Middle School (teaching new jazz members) and at Atherton High School. There is one thing I noticed through out the years that I have played. There barely any famous jazz flute bands. I mean there are only 2 music scores on 8notes! Why is this?

flute is not known as a big jazz instrument, however, there have been, and are, many great jazz flutists, listen to herbie mann, yusef lateef, hubert laws, dave valentin among others...learn blues scales from your jazz teacher and you can help make jazz flute more popular..good luck!

Ali Ryerson is leading the charge on this and has been making arrangements for her group of flutists. If you are going to NFA, check out their concert (Aug 11, 10:15 pm - midnight). I think she is selling the arrangements. If you are interested...pm me and I get that info for you...

I'm sorry. I can't go because I live in Louisville, KY. My parents couldn't afford it and I couldn't go by myself since I'm only 14 years old. Also I have jazz band rehearsals on Mondays and band camps Monday - Thursday next week. I would've like to go if I wasn't so busy.
Maybe when I'm older I will be able to go

Thank you Patrick for giving me some examples of some famous flute players. You have inspired me to more than just the usual playing in the background. I can see if my director will allow me to more solos during are gigs. So to let you I do practice ALL of my scales like major, minor, and even the blue scales. Maybe I should makeup my own band and music since I know many friends that play different instruments. What do you think?

P.S. I never talk bad about flutists, but I was very upset with Ryerson at the Florida Flute Fair this past Spring. One of my friends (who is a TA and my lessons teacher) played in her masterclass, and Ali was just rude to her. Unfortunately, I had to sit through her concert of fakery to get the results of the Young Artists competition (which I'm too old to enter ), but left right after the announcement. I can't wait til I'm famous, and actually nice...Amy Porter was very nice! Boo on Ali! Sorry guys!

Did you know that there is gold that is purple in color? I have never seen it, but have read about it somewhere before. Now I would love to have a gold purple flute. How cool would that be!
