Hi everyone,

I've recently gotten myself a copy of Mozart's Concerto in G for a contest later in the year, but I am at a loss where to find a cadenza.

I've found copies of them on fluteworld and sheetmusicplus, but I'm hesitant to buy as I have no idea what they sound like. Is there is a site where you can preview these cadenzas before buying them, maybe listen to them at the least?

Thanks,
Victor

Not that I know of, but it's not unusual to write your own cadenza. This could be a good opportunity for you to explore that path. In the purest sense of a cadenza, it would be improvised on the spot by the performer (though that is relatively rare among modern flutists), so you might also consider that route. Both would save you risking money on a cadenza you might end up disliking. If, however, you want a cadenza written cadenza that someone else composed, probably the best option is to listen to several recordings of a given piece and find one you like, and then notate it yourself, or find a published copy.

Humm, alright. I've never notated anything by ear before, but what better time to try right? But it seems to me that I don't have any options besides that and bitting the bullet, buying the cadenzas and hoping for the best.

there are quite a few out there, especially if you look under cadenzas ag flute world, I really still like the Rampal cadenzas, which you can still easily find on some of his recordings of the mozart concerti

Ahh, so your saying I should look up some recordings of the concerto and try to find cradenzas written by the same preformer?

I must admit I didn't consider that, and I'll look into Rampal, I don't think I've heard him play before...

This is a good idea, but not every recording includes cadenzas written by the performer. Many include cadenazas from other sources, so depending on how recent (and well known) the recording is, you may or may not be able to find out who wrote it. Since you're trying to avoid risking money on cadenzas you may not like, be careful with this route.

Well I've listened to a few recordings, but this one really stuck out at me cadenza wise,

Anyone recognize this cadenza?
