Hi,

I am not even going to dare put out the question of which head joint is best...so don't worry. I just would like to know what others do to choose between them. I have three that I am working with now and it is hard to keep up with what I like on one verses the other. So, if you don't mind...give me an idea of how you test out heads.

Thanks,
Sara

Here are a few things I question myself when trying out a new headjoint. I hope it helps

1. Does is have the perfect balance of resistance for me.
2. Does it produce the type of sound I am looking for?
3. Is the shape of the lip plate comfortable?
4. Am I able to change my tones and colors with ease?
5. How flexible is it for me when jumping octaves?
6. Can I play pp to FF evenly, or is it near impossible on the cut for me?
7. Can I articulate different passages comfortably and smoothly?

That's good advice, Kara.

You should use whichever one works the best for you. Sometimes they may work differently depending on what you're playing. Try and get a feel for which songs are best for which head joint.
