As part of my woodwind methodolgy course, we had to learn a common woodwind instrument - as I was already proficent in the common classroom ones, I am having a little trouble with one of the assignments:

Name 10 Problems and Solutions for flute students

I can't remember what issues I had learning flute, so I'm just asking (some teachers would be useful!) what would be some of the main issues for young flautists.

Is this a university level homework assignment?

Yes it is, 2nd year music education. I don't think this is actually worth anything, its just something to put in the resource folder. We are looking at it from primary school years 6+ to I think its approximately year 10

Potential problems for students:

-Embouchure formation and sound production
-Pitch
-Dynamic contrast
-Smooth finger technique
-Clean, clear articulations
-VIBRATO!!!
-Proper postioning (both overall, and the hands/arms in particular)
-Air control + breathing

These are just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure you can come up with several others...Just think what the weaknesses of the flute are, or those that you've observed in others, and see what you can think of.
