Do you think it's possible to be diagnosed with an addiction to flutes? The erge to have anything and everything that has something to do with flutes. Like it wont stop until you've collected every in existance (which is bad considering how ancient well loved the flute is). and any accessory that can go along with it. (a.e... cases, stands) especially combanation accesories like cases that can hold multible kinds of flutes, sheetmusic, stands, tuners, and can strap on your back.

Anyone else have this problem? I can imagine myself years from now broke with over 100 kinds of flutes.

that should say "Like it wont stop until you've collected every /flute/ in existance"

I couldn't tell you whether it's possible to be diagnosed with a flute addiction, as I'm not a doctor, but I suppose it's possible...I've certainly heard of stranger things before. I can't say I suffer from the same addiction, but I do enjoy collecting unusual flutes, and information regarding the instrument....Cases and the rest of it I'll leave to you!

Yes, I could totally understand that! If I had an endless supply of money then I would have every kind of flute imaginable and all the fun accessories too! I am a huge flute and headjoint junkie. I love cases and case covers too.

I do think that it could become an addiction and a problem just like any other.

Someone with an addictive type personality can definitely be addicted as you describe. Usually what happens is that if that particular addiction (flute stuff in this case)is taken away/stopped/altered, then a different addiction will manifest (gambling, drugs, spending, hoarding things, promiscuity, etc.). If you get to know people in AA (alcoholics anonymous) or NA (narcotics anonymous), you will see many people who have stopped the drinking or the drugs, but have substituted gambling, cigarettes, etc.

More than likely what you are referring to is not an actual addiction. Can you control it? Is it taking over to the point that it impacts your functioning in your daily life? Would you spend your money on flute stuff instead of your mortgage, food, your job needs? Would you take (steal) money from your family or friends in order to get this stuff?

Maybe it is more likely to be something that is of high interest to you now, but it may change as you grow through life.

Wow, this post is WAY too serious for what you probably originally intended!!

I find that practicing can be addictive. The more that I spend on it daily, the more that I want to do it.

Most things we derive a pleasure from can become addictive. Not necessarily a bad thing, provided it does not disrupt the normal life and the life of those near that person.
