Thanks,
I consider that a music arrangement with four or five instruments of an old work like the air on G is your own work and in no way "a public domain" work. No matter you obtained the basic song from public domain sources.
As I understand it (more opinions welcome), if you make a new score by entering the notes one by one be it by hand or with some SW, based on a piece that is previous to 1923, the "edition" becomes yours.
I suggest you check the conditions for uploading files in this same site, it is well explained there.
And if you make a new arrangement adding parts and harmony to one of the most famous melody it is clear for me that you could even copyright it, were you interested in such a thing.
You have decided to share your work with the forum members and that is nice and I thank you for it.
But it could be taht you are being too much modest. We must always appreciate the value of any work (and the effort implied) made by others, but also our own works and efforts.
<Added>BTW, the two MP3s are still pending for Admin authorization. I hope they become available soon.

Okay, so it might not be public domain, but I am offering it as such.
See the following from the Wikipedia page on Public Domain:
It is commonly believed by non-lawyers that it is impossible to put a work into the public domain. Although copyright law generally does not provide any statutory means to "abandon" copyright so that a work can enter the public domain, this does not mean that it is impossible or even difficult, only that the law is somewhat unclear. Congress may not have felt it necessary to codify this part of the law, because abandoning property (like a tract of land) to the public domain has traditionally been a matter of common law, rather than statute. |
