Dear Forum:
I no longer post threads, as a rule --- but I do like to visit and stay in touch once in awhile. I really miss this forum.
I have to thank Kara for introducing me to a flutist whom I never heard play, before: Rhonda Larson. Yes. I lnew the name, but never heard her play until I found: http://www.flutecorner.com/famousflutists
She is rapidly becoming one of my favorite flutists --- if not my favorite. Thanks heavens for recordings, for posterity to enjoy!
This post has to do with vibrato --- and I agree with Kara, in that I think it's too often "over-done".
Possibly, it's used to hide "bad intonation"? (There is such a thing as "too much --- or "too little".)
But I agree with Kara, that Rhonda Larson is among the best.
She brings the right amount of inflection (regarding vibrato ) to her playing --- not over-done, just right. She has lovely tone, sonority --- and brings passion to her playing. She's great!
Marvelous talent. Listen to her playing at: the above link.
I wept, openly, when I heard one of her marvelous interpretations.
Again, I thank Kara for bringing to me, a flutist I had never heard play before.
I hope you all visit the site and enjoy her playing as much as I do (I'm there, ten times per day).
I think that's what I enjoy most about the flute--- is the many different personalities represented, regarding style, color, tone and vibrato. I'm confident that everyone on this forum has his or own style ---- and that's great!
As Doriot Dwyer told me, many, many years ago: "just play from your heart --- never mind auditions, or just whom is listening, just play as though you're playing for yourself . Be yourself. Let your own voice come through".
Best to all: Jim

I am confused by this statement that you bring up every time you post. You still have a user icon and are still posting threads on this forum, correct? Then that makes you a member. As members we all visit the forum. How can you miss the forum when you are on it a good percentage of the day everyday?
Yes, Rhonda Larson is a great flutist and a very nice lady also. You are welcome and glad that some one else discovered her beautiful talent. I ask this out of politeness, could you please not mention me in every post? I am sure people are tired of seeing the name Kara. I have made it very clear that I wish to be left alone. Thanks.

And I promise they won't, Kara.
I will not use your name in any future posts. The only reason I did is, despite how much you hate me --- I have nothing but respect for your posts, and I wanted to let other members of the forum know how much knowledge you have.
You have forgotten more about flute playing than I will ever know.
You don't know how much I respoect this forum, and your posts.
You're quite right in saying that: "I've left this forum" --- yet continue to post". I'm ONLY "cleaning up" unfinished business, just so you know, because I get so many e-mails.
I just wanted to tell you that I'm simply "following up" on previous posts.
I can't tell you how sorry I am that we could never be friends.
If it were my last wish --- I would wish that we could have been friends. I would be so proud.
You have a remarkable insight into flutes / playing /construction.
I "postioned myself" as "no longer being a member of this forum". I did that, becasue it was your wish.
If you, or any member of this forum no longer wants me to be present, then I will abide by it.
I respect you, and admire your postings --- always.
With the best intent: Jim

I fully understand, Kara --- and yes, I was out of place in some my previous posts and comments.
This is the first flute forum I was ever on. I really miss it --- I think it's the best.
As I said, before, I came here thinking that I was a "know-it-all". The rest of you have really put me in my place, as well you should have. I still have much to learn.
My last three posts had only to do with flute-playing.
I said I "left" this forum --- but to clear up the confusion, I really didn't want to, because you guys are all great! I've learned so much.
I know you don't accept apologies, but I'm sorry about the "queen of the forum" routine ---- that was my lack of sleep, working on me.
Let's, please put all of that behind us. I DO enjoy reading your posts and replies.
And my future posts will have ONLY to do with flute playing.
Best to you ..... Jim
