I don't know if you live in Singapore, but be careful about any flutes made or constructed in China, or the Asian Pacific Rim.
Their quality standards are not the same as flutes made (entirely) in Japan or the U.S.
Yamaha is a good choice --- but make sure you know just "where" it was manufactured, before you buy.
As far as flute books go --- I'm an advanced player and am only familiar with the Tauffenel/Gaubert and Moyse studies.
But, as I recall, as a teen-ager --- we read from the "Kalmus" edition books, which seemed to have been the standard for beginning flutists. You might try to see if they're still available --- or check with your teacher.
If you need more information on books, contact me and I'll find out. (I live in Chicago -- we have several publishers, here).
Hope I helped.
Regards, Jim Millen
