so i have two headjoints out on trial. one is a brannen (silver, 14k riser) and the other is a tom green (silver, 14k riser). one projects a dark tone, the other a brighter tone. one is easy to play extremely loud and kinda soft, the other extremely soft and pretty loud. ive become partial to one is particular, but i want some other input as well since the people ive had listen to me have been pretty much 50/50 on the whole thing. ive been looking around as well at other headjoints, but these two are the best so far. and im on a strict budget. my question here is which qualities would you prefer in your headjoint of choice? do you also happen to have other suggestions (i would like a silver tube, gold riser) under $1500? i have recordings of both headjoints if anyone is interested in letting me know what they think of each sound.

thanks!

<Added>

which OF THE qualities.

meaning of the sound i described and such.

oops! :)

My head joint, is cut to produce a darker tone, and sound. When my older head joint was more how do you put it...brighter I guess, and I always thought it sounded good. I tried the new head joint, with the darker sound, O MY..ha im sorry but It's so nice it plays the higher notes brilliantly, and the low notes, dark, and rich, if you get where I'm coming from. Well just how I feel

my current headjoint - stock muramatsu - doesnt seem to have any other sound except so dark its almost muddy. its to the point where you cant hear almost any articulation, so both are a step up. both headjoints are so different, but so good. i wish i could afford both of them... haha

ha mines no where near the point where its "muddy" its wonderful, if it was though I would go back to my older brighter head joint if that was the case.

Before I was done reading your post I was going to suggest if you could record them both. So.. great idea! I would be very interested in hearing them.

I always look for projection in a headjoint, something that carries well in a big ensemble but not too bold for when I play for something on the smaller side. I am very partial to gold risers myself. I also like a sweeter clearer sound and some of the newer style BIG edgier headjoints are not my style at all.

unfortunately i dont have the opportunity to rehearse with a large ensemble before i have to return them. and i must say that i need to practice as well. after hearing myself i was like "wow. thats bad..."

anyway, the files are in WMA format. i dont know how to turn into mp3 so i cant upload them on this site. any ideas on how to send?

Hmm.. I am not good with that sort of stuff. Can you send it as an attachement in an email? Or maybe load it on youtube?

To me you sounded more at ease and better on headjoint A. That is the one I pick. Hope it helps.

ever notice that when you hear yourself again, you want to tear your hair out because you hear all the imperfections in the piece?

anyway, thanks. that one happens to be the brannen. its louder. i like that. but i cant play that soft with it. i dont know. there are so many good qualities about each. I WANT BOTH!!

How interesting. Kara and I both like the same headjoint. So which one did you pick?
