Hi All,
Just was wondering if anyone knew about the Trevor James Piccolo Models TJP-P and TJP-R. My Flute professor is getting the global burkart piccolo both the standard headjoint and the wave headjoint, as well as the trevor james grenadilla wood piccolo. She really didn't anwser my question about reviews on it, so i thought i would just post here and ask? I google searched it and really didn't find anything substantial.

I have not tried one, but I would be interested in what they are like. I am not a very big fan of their flutes but, maybe their piccolos would be better. Please let me know what you think of it when and if you try one out.

I would really like to try a Keefe piccolo myself, but there is a long waiting list for one. I am also on a piccolo search.
Burkart or Powell is the direction I am hoping to go for as they are my favorite that I have tried so far.

Yes, they are fantastic! If I could find one, I would most likely buy it on the spot. They are hard to find though. WWBW used to carry them, but last time I called they said they didn't have any.

Really? The WWBW web site says they're in stock and ready to ship.

That was a little while ago that I checked on them, so I just called and you are right they have one in stock! I am excited now. I was hoping to find a used one at a lower price though. I found a used Moennig for a very good price that I am waiting on though that is out on trial. Hopefully the person won't want it. So we will see...

when on my own piccolo hunt, i tried the trevor james. my review as follows:

the mechanism: seemed cheap. reminded me of those gemeinhardt piccolos you used play in high school marching band. except not as bad. it was well adjusted, just not all that great.

the headjoint: not my place to speak, as i hate wave headjoints. nice cut though

the sound: it sounded thin. and kind of "tinny" which doesnt make sense since it was a wood piccolo. it had a very distinct sound that i personally dont like. and either did the lady at flute world. BUT the sound was so easy to produce. the response was INCREDIBLE! the low register (low g and below) was so amazing, it probably couldve competed with low brass.

in all: its an ok picc. i prefer others over it, such as the boston legacy (but barely, especially since i dont like the mechanism at all) and the powell signature (it was ok, but while i was expcting a traditional powell picc sound, i didnt get any resemblance of it). My favorite for the price range is the global. in fact, i liked it so much that i bought one.

<Added>

ALSO! if you arent a big fan of the standard headjoint that comes on the global or even the bp and bpe piccs, try upgrading to the lillian burkart clarion. i tried a few when picking mine out. the sound went from "pretty good" to "better than that bp sitting next to it" to "holy moly, is this picc only 2 grand?"

yeah, bought the clarion too. and worth every penny.

Well, Today i tried the piccolos and i decided on getting the Burkart and Phelan Global with the wave head joint. I really hated the trevor james piccolo. It is very responsive in all octaves especially the low octave the notes just pop out, but the tone is horrible. It was very painful to listen to it, the tone was just way to hallow. When i started playing on the global the tone was many levels above the trevor james. I picked the wave head joint b/c my tone was more centered with it and very responsive in all ocataves.
