My teacher and I are going to be looking for a new solo for me soon. I plan to learn part of it for my All-State Audition in October, and hopefully learn the rest for Solo/Ensemble in the spring.

The solo I did last year was the Mozart Concerto in G Major. I pretty much got that one down in the 8-9 months I worked on it. Heres a video of me at solo/ensemble. Something about the same level.. maybe a little harder, especially musicality wise as I am very good at being musical (more so than going really fast most of the time ) My teacher thinks maybe a French piece would be good? She might have a few things for me at my lesson this Thursday. I'll update if she has anything for me, but I wanted to see if theres anything anyone here might suggest.

The biggest thing at the moment is that I want it to be good for All-State. Here flute is EXTREMELY competitive.. last year 60 flutes tried out at our center. 5 made it in. and 4 of those were from my school.. I didn't try out on flute last year as I did violin. I am definitely going to try VERY hard this year, and I wont have to worry about violin anymore (although I'll still play it for church, I am stopping at school and lessons and focusing on flute) so I can get really good at it. I plan to practice at least 2-3 hours a day.

Thanks

How about Faure's Fantasie?

I was going to suggest the Faure as well, it is not very long, very gorgeous, and really shows musicality and technique, not to mention the fact that audiences love it..there are others from the FLute Music by French Composers book, ed. by Louis Moyse,Schirmer, that are also very good

Maybe "Piece pour Flute Seule" by Ibert.

I played it this year. Not too difficult, but enough that you'd have to practice some technical spots a bit >.<

Best of luck at State :D

I think a french song would sound really pretty on what ever instrument you play it. or you could go for a spanish song, something that say a history happens in this song soo listen well, something that has a slow and pretty [art, but also a fast part to exclaim excitment and things like that. So i think i agree with your teacher. Just GO FOR IT because all you can do is try.

So my teacher showed me two songs, I really like both of them.

One was actually the Faure's Fantasie, as well as Chaminade's Concertino. She thinks I could do the Chaminade.. I know that it will take a lot of work, but I've been listening to a few recording after I got home.. I love it, lol. I'm pretty excited to start working on either one of these!

work on pieces you love, it's hard to get excited about something someone forces you to play
