Hi everyone!
I am weighing several options now, and I hope that you would kindly
give me some advice.
I am comparing between the Yamaha YFL 221, Gemeinhardt 2SP,
Armstrong 104E and Trevor J. James 3011E. Can you help give some
comments on how these 4 flutes compare against each other?
Also, does anyone have any idea if Gemeinhardt has a distributor in
Singapore (where I am)? I tried calling, but nobody seems to want to
answer my call....
Thanks all!
Regards,
Junbin

Geminhardt have a good reputation but I`ve never tried one myself. I personally like Yamaha student flutes but I`ve never played the other models so I wouldn`t be able to compare.

Have managed to try out the Yamaha YFL 221, and TJJ 3011E. I find the 3011E to be much better. It responds better, and the low octave notes sound warmer....so I settled for the 3011E in the end...=)

I would go with the Yamaha. They have good student models.

I`ve had a Geminhardt student flute for the last couple of years now. I`m in college now, and my professor says it`s still a good flute! I suggest looking at each of the companies` websites to see what they have to offer you.

I think you said that you already decided on one, but in case anybody else checks this, I have a student Gemeinhart that`s lasted me for nearly seven years. I`ve only had one major problem with it, and that was when I dropped it on a music stand.

I don`t know anything about Gemeinhart and Yahama student flutes. My student flute is an Armstrong. And I couldn`t be more pleased with it.
I have a Gemeinhart professional flute, but I`ve never played one of their student models. I recommend Gemeinhart to people looking for a step-up instrument. But my Armstrong student model is amazing. I love the sound, and it`s very tough. I abused that flute when I was younger... and it`s still in very good condition.
I don`t know if it`s better than the Yamaha or the Gemeinhart ones, but I love it.

Ive compared the Geimenhart student flute to Armstrong, and the Armstrong was easier to play, more solid sound, keys easier for fingers to rest on, and fun to play. I couldnt get a clear low note out of the Geimenhart.
As for Yamaha, they make good clarinets is about all I can say.

Yamaha`s are soo awesome! Especially for beginners, I have tried a rental geminhardt and it was BEYOND AWFUL, but the one I tried was in bad shape, so I didn`t really have a good chance to evaluate one at it`s best. No offense to you geminhardt lovers But I have tried a Yamaha and they the 200 series is great, they are very durable for all you clumsy flute players out there (me!), and good tone (but of course that is a matter of opinion). Well hope that helps!

I have a Gemeinhardt 3B and love it. I just bought a Selmer 220B so I will see if I like this one or not.

Yamaha is supposed to be really good but they tend to be a bit on the expensive side. I had a Gemeinhardt m2 for awhile and it was okay but you could never get good tone out of it...
