Hello,

I have seen you already wrote a lot concerning Gemeinhardts and I really appreciate that :-)

Can someone help me finding out the age (or approximately) of my Gemeinhardt 2M ?
Itīs serialnumber is 223295

I would also like to know if this flute has a full silver headjoint, or what might be silver plated. I have no idea of its worth. Now it needs some repair. So today I compared it to Azumi 1000 E, which also sounds very nice and full. But I prefer my Gemeinhardt, it sounds better somehow. Therefore can someone please give me advice concerning the portion of silver and if it is comparable with a Yamaha 211 or Azumi 1000E or Pearl PF 505.
(I live in Germany, so maybe our models here are not so familiar to you)

I hope you can help me, as my e-mail to the Gemeinhardt company has not been answered (concerning age).

Thanks very much!!
Tanja

Itīs me again. Happy now, as I found a serial number look up at the Gemeinhardt homepage (have been there 10 times since yesterday and never used "sitemap", but today!!).

You may be happy as well, using this Gemeinhardt serial number guide:

My flute was built in 1966 :-)

But if you could still help me with the portions of silver, Iīd be soooo glad!!! Or if you could tell what a full silver headjoint looks like, or silver plated etc. as I do not have comparison.

Thank you all!!
Tanja

I also have a M2, probably built in the early 70's and it is not silver, just silver plated. Check the Headjoint tenon; in my case the colour is clearly different from silver.

Thanks for the serial number link! That puts my Gemeinhardt piccolo at an age of about 32 years or so! At least it's younger than I am. Just.

Hi!
This thread left me curious about the age of my own M2.

Its serial number is D20489. However, in the "Serial Number Guide" provided at the Gemeinhardt web, last M2 serial number starting with a letter is B79900.

Anybody could help?

I also have a Gemeinhardt M2. its serial number begins with the letter "C"

According to Gemeinhardt, the chart they offer on the website is not all inclusive.

Iīm so happy with all your wonderful answers!! The way you describe how to make a particular sound is great. I never heard of that before. And it seems so be the only method that is reliable. If you had not answered me, I would still be stuck.

Recently I met the German product manager of Azumi flutes. He told me my Gemeinhardt probably has a distorted headjoint and therefore it is quite difficult to play at the high octaves. I did not really know if it would be good to let it be repaired, as it also has mechanical problems. I did not know how much the flute is worth and if it is profitable to let it be reapaired. So I also thank you for telling me about the worth of these kind of Gemeinhardt flutes!

I decided to buy a new flute. And I was absolutely amazed by the Azumi AZ1000E. I canīt stop playing it :-) I am still sad because my Gemeinhardt is in no good condition, but I will not sell it! It has a wonderful sound and for that reason I will consider a repair someday.

I can highly recommend this Azumi AZ1000e flute to you. It is not that expensive, but the sound is great and it is really easy to play.

Gemeinhardt mentioned that you cannot find every serial number on that list, as some serial numerbers got lost. I am very sorry for those of you who could not find their flutes in that list! Thatīs frustrating! Maybe you are luckier than me with sending an e mail to Gemeinhardt and getting an answer!

Wishing you all the best, and kind regards!! :-)
Tanja
