My guess is that it's really a cheap copper alloy tube that's silver plated. ie - the factory in china as usual, lied through its teeth because there's nothing that you can do once it leaves China.
Yet another instance of "made in the U.S." actually meaning "Assembled in the U.S. from outsourced parts."
I can't imagine that they wouldn't know this and my guess is that if you brought it to their attention, they would deny it was even theirs.
