It was worth listening to: I've always wanted to know what a "sliver" flute sounded like. Now I know! It's just a "sliver" of a real flute sound.

I listened, but I didn't watch the video. I eventually went back to check on the video and she was playing on the Yamaha. I couldn't tell the difference. I guess I was trying too hard to tune out the squacks.

I think that my mom waited until I was a little better before she upgraded my Armstrong 104 to an Armstrong 80B.

I see kids marching with Muramatsu flutes around here. Too many spioled brats. The Muramatsu doesn't help them sound any better either.

I am still working on the 4th octive on my Muramatsu. I can get the notes with all the student flutes that I have laying around, just not the Muramatsu.

I will just keep plugging at it.

What was the purpose of this? A professional flute won't help your tone; tone exercises help your tone. Tone exercises are also free, which a professional flute is (obviously) not. Hmm, spend thousands of dollars to see no difference, or spend 10 minutes a day playing long tones to see actual improvement? Throwing money at the problem won't help it.

I think that may have been the point of the video - that the instrument itself doesn't make a a big difference with her sound.

...and everyone please keep in mind that you were a beginning student at one point in your life as well. She's just a little kid who's dad put her on youtube. It's not her fault...

I think that most of us probably feel sorry for the kid. She might be one of those kids that is being pushed.

Most of us just think that it is silly to buy a professional flute for someone at that playing level. It is just going to make it harder for her to progress.

At her level she could be playing a platinum flute and it wouldn't make a difference.

If she was my daughter (who is 7, and is torturing me with violin practise), I'd think she sounded wonderful, no matter how bad it was!

I don't know how long she's been playing, but I hope she keeps practising

I remembered watching this video uploaded sometime back!
She should try out a 20k Gold Nagahara! Galway have one! Then she will sound like him! Of course I am only joking! Poor rich girl and of course its not her fault! One do not play on a professional flute as a beginner! A student flute eg. the yammie will help in developing your lungs, tone and embouchure and ease one into a transition to a step up instrument and then to conservatory/concert flute. To start on a professional flute at that age will result in much difficulties and irreparable damage to ones technical abilities latter! Its like making a kid do heavy weight lifting before the kid if fully grown! result: Stunted growth!!
