I ask because someone on the internet sold me an alto flute, or so he thought, for a ridiculously low price. Turns out it is a standard C flute with a second head, a crook. I assume it is meant for short learners.
I know it is a concert flute because I have one. I have yearned for years to find an alto flute at a price I can stand.
The problem is, he believes he has sold me an alto flute, he, being Chinese, doesn't understand English very well, so I want to tell him how long C and G flutes are.
The main reason I want to convince him is that he still has several alto flutes listed.
For the record, the flute he sent has a 9" head, 13 2/3" body and a 5" foot.

thanks

Yes, I know how long a C concert flute is. And, yes, that is the wonderful low price I paid for it.
I was positive I wouldn't get an alto at anywhere near those prices, but I got one of those stupid notions to see what happened.

Now, anyone know the alto's difference? I suppose I could assume it is something like 135% the length of a C. But I need to have authority, not a guess.
But thanks for the reply.

I wrote to the seller mentioning your measurements, and this immediately convinced him, and he was quite happy to be educated about at least two types of flute.
He said he will remove the remaining offers, but I dohn't see them gone quite yet.

Thanks again, because you helped.

P.S.
Anyone know where I could find an impossibly cheap alto flute?

An "impossibly cheap" alto flute (or any instrument, for that matter) is just not worth it. They will fall apart quickly, play horribly out of tune, and have nasty headjoint cuts.

I got a Pearl alto this summer for $1300 new. It's the cheapest name-brand alto that I could find out there, and it plays beautifully. You could also look for one used, but they aren't anywhere near as common as concert C flutes.
