ugh that would make me VERY mad!!
At my school(I live in Iowa.. my school is a VERY big public school and we have a crazy good music program) All-State is a pretty big deal. We actually have to audition to be able to audition as each school can only send 28 members from each band, vocal and orchestra. (28 from band, 28 from orch etc) and theres quite a few that want to audition but don't get to.
This year was my first year making All-State and it was A TON of work.. and according to my teacher, its really hard to know where you stand within your whole state if you are at a smaller school.. and having competition (we have an INCREDIBLY competitive school, particularly in the flutes.. at our audition center 5 flutes out of about 40 are selected. This year three of the 5 were from my school) and ya..
But anyway, that really stinks! Start preparing EARLY (our auditions are in october, i started my solo and stuff in June.. and exerpts come out in August for us.. the festival is the week before Thanksgiving
Good luck!!
