I recently found out that there were a bunch of headjoints that came out of the Powell workshop that are missing the last two steps of the finishing process.

I got one of the flutes on trial.

No wonder it was not up to my expectations.

So everyone wanting to buy a Signature or a Sonare, be on the lookout for bad headjoints.

Try a few of them before you poo poo them and put them down.

Could you tell us which to steps? I would expect more from Powell. That is sad to hear. Thanks for the warning.

It was a brain fart/ typo.

I was just told it was the two last steps. I don't know what is involved in that but a bunch of headjoint got sent out. Some of them are gold plated.

No, I was correcting my typo, not yours. lol!

Probably finishing steps, polishing and alike.

Well, it was a step having to do with the embouchure hole. It was noticeable when you put the headjoints side by side. It is also noticeable when playing the flute.

That is probably why the flute had a very weak lower end and the high end wasn't good either.

The music store that you were trialing it from usually makes it clear that they always set up and check each instrument before shipping. I am surprised that they didn't catch this if the checked it before.

He caught it when I sent it back. He started looking closer at it and then went and got an older flute out of his stock. He also checked it against the older Sonares and noticed that all the flutes that he got in that shipment had a different shape to the embouchre cut. He called Powell and asked if they had changed their headjoints. He said he didn't notice anything because he is a doubler. Anyway the tech went back to check on the headjoints and found the error.

I guess they have some sort of assembly line. One tech is in charge of the headjoints and has people working under her. The workers were not completing the cutting of the headjoints and doing the finishing and sending them out. or something like that.

I have decided to put off getting a new flute.

Besides after the glowing recomendation of the great mechanisim on the Muramatsu flutes. I have decided that maybe I just need to save my pennies and look for an upgrade Muramatsu. Or someone having a Muramatsu despiration sale.
