So who's going to the 2009 NFA Convention in NYC? I definitely am!

Unfortunately I probably won't get to attend many of the convention events because I'll be searching for a new flute. My Pearl Maesta flute was stolen about a year ago and it's been a roller coaster ride ever since. For a while I survived on an ancient student Gemeinhardt that started developing technical issues. Then finally I put down $1,500 for a Muramatsu Ex (If you want to see who I got it from then type muramatsu ex into ebay... the guy who sold it to me has another one on there now for $1,700).

Anyway, then I went to the Florida Flute Association Convention with the intention of getting my main flute... but unfortunately I felt too rushed to make a decision. While at the convention I had to perform with my university flute choir and I also performed in the Advanced Masterclass that took place on Sunday morning (playing Ibert Concerto first movement). With the preparation for those events there just wasn't enough time. However... I'm super excited about the NFA convention! I figure it will be huge this year with Galway being there and it being located in New York. Is the selection of flutes usually much larger than at the Florida Fair?

I tried to do the mail trials for a while but today was the last straw after I received a Miyazawa BR Type II flute (from the Flute Center of New York) that would literally only play a few notes. It is a total wreck and seriously needs the help of a good technician. The flute is used, which shouldn't have been a terrible thing in theory, but unfortunately is also totally unplayable right now. I'm sick of spending money on shipping and having bad luck... so off to the convention I go.

Hope some of you will be there.

I planned on going, however I too am in the market for a new instrument and all available funds will be put to the "new flute" fund. Sad, since I already made reservations.
:-(

I will be there as I live here, hopefully I will be at the Jupiter booth showing some of the new flutes/picc etc, there should be much more there than there was in FL

I was at the Florida one and had a lot of fun. I think I am pretty much fluted out for a while though so I won't be attending any flute conventions for some time. I also spent all my free time at the booths in Florida and didn't attend any concerts or classes. I did however hear some fantastic musicians playing along the way from booth to booth which was fun. If you walked the halls of the hotel in the evenings you could here all sorts of flute players practicing too. I think I heard it in my sleep days later after that.
Good luck finding your perfect flute!
