When I graduated from my High School, We had 333 band members. There were 44 flutes. My band is the largest high school marching band in the state of PA. My band also travels around the US.

my school doesn`t have a marching band. instead, it has a wind ensemble and concert band.
i`m first chair in the concert band. there`s roughly 80-something of us. there are 26 flutes (about) including me. we`re going on a trip this year for a competition!! they always do that.
meanwhile, in the wind ensemble, there is 30-40 people. they go to Europe and have a composer do a commissioned work for them every year.

Our marching band was about 85 people last year, probably the largest in our county...im from Mississippi so...you know...lol but we`re only about 50 or 55 of us this year...i really like being in a small band though because you get a chance to know everyone and you kinda become like one big family, which includes having the relations you love, and the ones you just can`t stand...lol

I wish (semi) we had a marching band, but we don`t need to. Our wind ensemble is already famous enough.

We don`t even have a marching band! We have a concert band with about 20 of us and a swing band with about 8!!! There are only about 40 people though in my school who actually play an instrument - we are a specialist sports college so expressive arts are `not as important` as our headmaster tells us!!!

in my marching band we have 88 members this year, and we are 3rd in the state and something like 4th in the region, and that includes pit, guard, and auxilary. horn lines we have 2 mellos, 5 baritones, 4 tubas, 1 bari sax, 6 trumpets, 6 trombones, 6 clairinets, 2 alto saxes, 1 tenor sax, and 8 flutes and the rest is pit, guard, and auxilary. we go for quality, and fans say our sound is much more clear than bigger bands. plus, if your in tune, your sound will sound larger, so we don`t need that many people.

If you have not ever in you life heard of (or just heard) Western Carolina, you have not heard a true field "Show". In this case it is a balance of quality and quantity...there just that good. The show this year was "Flirtin` with Diseaster" a salute to Southern Fried Funk!!! IT ROCKED...You can have 600 members, but I`m sorry to say that if your band is going to stop adding members (on an audition only basis) after 340+ members and your director is the one and only Bob Buckner...then we can talk! Toodles

holy crap 340+? I only know of one band near that size. James Logan High School of CA has got an audition band of 300+ (They also got a B marching band that doesn`t compete).
You could have 600 auditioned members and you could still sound like crap (or you could be just boring - as with the case of many big auditioned bands). If you want to watch a "real show" go watch the Blue Devils.
LOL. My band only has 97 (but our low brass section is probably collage grade -- it ROCKS!)
