on the woodwind group website, I can't find the price ranges of each "price range". What "price range" (student/intermediate/semi-professional etc.) would a budget of about $1500 AU fit under?

Seems to me you should look for Australian Dollar rates

1500Au$ would get you anything in the student range uo to say 300 series yamaha and then into some of the intermediate range of flutes these are new prices personaly i have picked up bargans at the local porn brokers i got a yamaha 511 the other day for 650 au that converts to less than 500usd the 511 is a older model but has a hm cy head joint sterling silver body and foot joint in as new condition right down to case and leather outer case no scratches dints and pads in as new condition looking at a few sites that have 2nd hand flutes here in aus i found another 511 with pitting on keys and in a used condition for 2500Aud so i think i got a real bargin

from the info i have found the the 511 is now the 600 series and new priced around the 4k plus mark i'm seeing yamaha 200 series in the same sort of shops around the 200Aud mark in good to very good condition big diference from the 900Aud new price

An addition to Micron's post - if buying goods from another country you may also be liable to pay sales tax to Customs when it comes into your country.

thanks for your replies. I live in Brisbane and I believe the Woodwind Group operates in Sydney. Also, I'm not looking for a new flute, rather an upgrade for the headjoint. What do you think I could get for the 1500 australian dollars.
