Hi all.
Just wanted to share a recording of our orchestra with you.
Although not a professional recording, gives an idea of what we do here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLP4EgOQ9yE

enjoy :-)

P.S. It's me as principal, playing at this time my old Muramatsu Standard with an Emanuel headjoint (all silver both).

<Added>

P.S.2 - there are 3 parts for this recording.

Thanks Patrick,

I think what really helped in this case was the acoustic box artificially formed by those big reflection panels in the back stage.

regards

Thank you for sharing! I enoyed it very much.

I have actually never heard about Florent Schmitt before, and had a lot of fun looking him up after hearing the recording.

Thanks a lot! :-)
About your comment I'd add that our director, Ira Levin (who acctually is born in Chicago and lived 20 years in germany before comming here five years ago), is very commited in showing these kind of unkown repertoire.
In the past 3 years we just played so many unkown composers that our orchestra is now known all over as unconventional.
These barely known composers wrote some jewels which style could be confused with the greatest masters, since they shared the same era and were influenced by their school of composition.
Of course we do play traditional as well as brazilian classical music.

don't you just love it to play in an orchestra? the flute sound penetrates and floating above the whole orchestra, with overtones your flute sound just be heard anytime, couldn't be covered by other instruments. And we sit right in the middle, we can enjoy the orchestral sound like a surround sound hi-fi, or even better, right in the center, lol. I really enjoy playing in a local junior youth orchestra as principal flutist.

I know I shouldn't hijack your post, but just like you to hear this Chinese piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q96rdXE6ATw
it's my favourite, we played last year in Scotland trip, Aberdeen Music Hall, me as assistant principal for this piece

That's great Chan! :-)
I was just about to right you a post in your "bumble bee" topic. I will then condense it here, since you kindly wrote here for me.

I must apologize to you because of my ironic tone at your other topic. I didn't realize you are just the age of my youngest daughter, and my comment was not so ever educational. What I really wanted to tell you is more or less what Patrick said. Adding that you're really talented and eventually you will get the maturity that will sure lead you to learn many things in terms of interpretation and expression. I do know (and I say this with the confidence of a father of three gorgeous girls, 13 to 20 y.o.) that your interest now is to get closer to your reference points, and you could not pick a better one than our great Sir James. He's mine too :-)

Thanks a lot for your kind compliment. I would answer you "YES!". It's so good being able to work with pleasure. I wish you can learn much more at the junior orchestra. It will be useful all your professional life long.

cheers
Zevang

Thanks! I learned the flute since 8, but I was very lazy, never practiced, until 11 I watched Emmanuel Pahud played in Berlin Phil, and then the next day he came to give us masterclasses, wow, his playing and especially the tone were so beautiful!, interpretation was so accurate and wonderful! He said how could the bird vibrato in the piece called The Bird? wow, his understanding of music is so good. I then decided I wanted to be like him and become a Principal Flutist in a Professional or Top orchestra someday, so I worked hard in the next 3 years, and I joined a local junior youth orchestra last year, and now I am principal flutist, I will continue to learn of course...

Davies Gareth of London Symphony - ranked 4th in the world wrote me 2 months ago:
" Hi Pyrioni(my youtube alias)
I just came across your video. Sounds really good. Keep it up.

Best wishes

Gareth Davies
Principal Flute LSO

p.s. I play on a Yamaha too! "

thank you Mr.Zevang, you are great player, I liked your tone, though not as good as Pahud, lol.

<Added>

just kidding, no offense, I actually can't tell the tone difference yet. but you really sound good!! all of you guys sound better than me. ^_^
