I watched your video, good technique, but please don't ever substitute tone or clean playing for speed, someone with your talent and technique will have all the time in the world to play faster...also, you went so fast we can't always hear the dynamics.

Yes, indeed Patrick.
Let's note the background for this message: "Sir Galways tempo". That really should mean "Sir Galways tempo, articulation, dynamics, phrase, breathing, etc..." That took decades to be in shape...

I dunno. I thought it was pretty good. I mean, you were flying and obviously, you have great technique. The only issue for me was where you were breathing. I understand that in a piece like that, it seems like there are no good places to breathe, but it would've sounded much better to me if you breathed in more reasonable places.

thank you all for great suggestions and advices.

about breathing, I breathed on the breathing marks exactly...it's just that I breathed a bit too long during the acceleration to 260/270 at the end part - short on breath.
I will learn circular breathing from my teacher soon. thx.

If you close your eyes, not looking at my face, can't you hear my bee ranning away, flighting, flapping its wings, and air-breaking in the air before bump into a wall and window, then the big warsps ran after my bee, then my bee ran in crazy again, took a short breath, then flight towards a semi-open window and flew like never before, and got out, phrew....free and safe at last. (I sightreaded with emotion and feeling)...I will do another one after I memorize it later

<Added>

my technique is actually not good...many younger people in my country do better than me... sigh..even my piccoloist in my orchestra can play better and faster than me. :(

Sir Galway made 2 notes mistakes at the end part...one high note missing and changed another note I think.

<Added>

He's still the greatest bumblebee player ever...with years of practicing scales and beautiful tone etc everything perfect!

congrats on your accomplishments, for someone so young to play so well, I hope I hear you play when I come to HK...but don't worry about playing so fast, fast playing is only meaningful when one plays with expression which includes dynamics and phrasing...I would like to hear you play the slow movement from the D major Mozart Concerto..

Flight of Bumblebee was just for fun man, I only played 2 times against Sir.Galway's online youtube video, then I taped it (the 3rd time) with my camera. take it easy on me, I was just trying to see if I can catch up with the great master of this century (and last century of course), apparently I got a lot to learn I know. I heard people saying Sir.Galway played 60 years of scales everyday for 3 hours, I only played 1 hour of scales everyday for the past 2 years.

<Added>

maybe I need 180 more years of scales to practice. :(

I actually admire your talent, just don't be fooled into thinking that fast playing is ultimate goal..several years ago I was invited to Taiwan to judge a competition, all the entrants played fast and loud and all had a good tone, guess who won? the one who showed the most sensitivity and dynamics and character...

You have a great career ahead of you, keep working so hard...

Wow, you judged Taiwan competition, cool man, you maybe judging me one day for Hong Kong, we invite foreign players to judge us all the time (for fairness reason), lol, give me higher points, just kidding .

Korea, Japan, and Taiwan have a lot of good players in Asia, they are one generation ahead of China and Hong Kong for flute. Our last generations suck, we had to invite foreign players to help us, that is why I work very hard to change this shameful situation (I hope).

I don't understand why I always lost in competition because of dynamics not big enough, the guy beat me has poorer intonation, poorer tone, sometimes squeezed, but this guy wins the prize because his dynamics is bigger than me (a little bit more). I mean do I have to crack the notes for fff and squeeze the ugly notes for ppp to win? right, that is musical, but that sounded ugly....sigh....

if you want to win an audition or competition, be the one who tells the best story, lots of people play fast and loud with a constant vibrato, but those who are the most creative do the best..
