OK. I want to buy an open holed flute and was wondering what what kind people like best. I really like Gemeinhart and have a Gemeinhart closed hole flute and piccolo. I wondered what everyone else liked. Thanks!!

You'll find about as many favorites as there are flutes. In terms of recommendations, Yamaha is consistently there along with Pearl. I'd recommend trying out Sonare because that's what I use, and it's fab. Ultimately it comes down to what works best for you, so instead of looking for the "best" brand, just try out models from brands known for their quality and pick which works best for you.

Thanks for recomm...but my testing report with my uncle's flute just now: It's Sig Headjoint is not THE Sig Headjoint used on Sig Flute...Coarse...wild..probably made by trained technicians instead of by master headjoint makers...and tone is not pure although its overtone is massive...its cutting is very dramatic...4 corners are cut with undercut...overcut is like square shape, with steep drop-off plate and lip-plate ~ so it's like designed to sound with a lot of overtones, not designed to sound pure and focus tone...probably it's good for those people who are weak in air pressure and can't blow with overtones. Its body is unstable for me...not as stable as a Yamaha body. That's is all I have to say, I wonder why it's fab for u?

merits: easy to play the high registers...and all 3 registers have constant, stable and same tone colours

Maybe I'm "weak in air pressure and can't blow with overtones". *roll eyes*

But seriously, flute preference is so very subjective that your review is pretty much meaningless to me as my results are clearly different. Yes, I'm aware that it's not THE signature headjoint, but it's a marked improvement from all of the others I tried, including every Yamaha headjoint I could find in roughly the same price range (because Yamaha came so highly recommended).

The body of my Sonare is made in China, and while it's alright, it's still fairly obvious that the brand is designed as a good headjoint paired with a bargain body. But that's ok because I didn't buy it for the body, I bought it for the headjoint with the option of switching to a body I like better.

My daughter started out with a Yamaha student flute and is now using a Jupiter DiMedici 911. Both serve her very well.

best?
I don't think there is such a thing when it comes to flute selection.
These are some good brands to look at, depending on your level.
Emerson
Miyawaza
Pearl
Yamaha
Powell
There are a lot more, but unfortunately, I have to leave for rehearsal in a moment and don't have time to complete my list...
