Is the Gemeinhardt M2 flute solid silver? What type of flute do you have?

I have a geminhardt 22 sp. Most flutes are platium or silver, but not all silver.

No it is sliver plated but there are some flutes that are solid silver, but those are the intermedite and professional models

oh yea i also have a 22sp student model with a Gold lip plate

i have a yamaha 381h, an intermediate flute with a nickel with a silver plated body and silver head. it has a low b gizmo key. its a great flute for the progressing student.

thing, I have been old to buy a yamaha student flute( I am grade 3) or the Pearl.

sum gemeinhardts are good. most of the ppl in my band have a gemeinhardt and thye`re good flutes, however mine is awful, its sum 50th series thing. sumone else had the exaxt same flute as me and theirs was good, so maybe maybe mine just hapened to be 1 bad 1 or sumthin.

Ihave an old Armstrong and it is almost all silver, and still plays decently consitering i got it from my uncles friend who used it when she was going to school

Am not sure about the Gemeinhardt. For myself, I have a Dean Yang Emerald. If you want a good tone, I suggest getting a flute that is `solid silver`, as you put it. If the entire thing is sterling silver, the tone is completely out of this world in comparison to the normal metal flutes or even just the silver plated flutes.

I have a Gemeinhardt M2 flute. The head is definitely solid silver because it is imprinted. Mine is an A series flute. I`m not sure what the difference is between M2 A series and B series, but from the research I`ve done it appears that the B series has a silver-plated body and foot. My A series appears to have a solid-silver body and foot.

That`s just silver plated, isn`t it? Then maybe about $300ish.

The M2 Gemeinhardt flute was robust but had a VERY fuzzy tone, low volume, and poor response compared with Yamaha student flutes. They varied a bit, from very mediocre to very disappointing.

The 2ESP model was a little better. In the mean time, Yamaha had got even better.

I cannot speak much for the other models, because I have not serviced/played hundreds of these. However if a maker cannot get right something as fundamental as the head design (responsible for most of the tone/volume/response) in a student flute, I don`t really think they are likely to do much better when they make the same thing from silver or gold.

The actual choice of metal is a minor factor in a good flute. Design is far more important. It so happens that the GREAT manufacturers tend to use precious metals when they make flutes with special attention to design, but it is almost entirely the design that makes a great flute great.
