Hi all - I just found my daughter's flute from grade school and want to sell it. It's a Gemeinhardt 3SH. How can I tell if it's in good condition? Does anything get old or damaged from sitting in a closet for 15 years? Thanks for any advice!

Well you could take it to an experienced flautist in the area and have it looked at. He/She could tell you the condition it's in, probably how much it's worth, and (if it's not in full playing condition) what kind of repairs it may need.

Sitting in a closet for 15 years won't have done it too much harm but the lubricant will have went gooey causeing the mechanism action to be comprimised, so you will need to take it in for a COA to get mechanism seen too, as it is old i would check the pads make sure they are not discoloured or ripped, make sure that it i generally good cosmetic condition, but other wise without taking it to a technition there is nothing else i can suggest.

Thank you all for your help...I'll bring it into my local music store and see what they suggest.
