i know christmas is a long way off, but does anyone know any flute music that is challenging (say grade 6-8 standard) so sounds impressive as a performance but also christmassy (or even better an arrangement of a christmas carol/song meant that is embellished a lot)?
i'm doing grade 8 soon and every year am asked to play something at the school christmas concert and the last few years i haven't done anything harder or more interesting that grade 3ish and its dull to play to i can't imagine what its like to listen to.
thanks for any suggestions

Grand Fantasia on "I Saw Three Ships" which is in the James Galway Christmas album.

It sounds easy at first, but it progresses through the music and starts getting more intricate. Just have a listen all the way through and see if it might work for you.

I love this! It's beautiful. Does anyone know if there is a way to purchase the sheet music for just the one song, rather than the whole Galway album?

Thanks!

I am playing all of these at South Iredell High School and these all are very hard they are grades 4-6 hope they are helpful.

Greensleeves traditional arranged by Alfred Reed= A grade 5
This piece of music is very challenging.

Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson= A grade 5
This piece I would say is very hard for all bands to play.

Overture to a Winter Festival by James Curnow= A grade 4
This piece of music is very hard with 18th notes very challenging.

I hope these all are very helpful to your findings.

why would she want to perform from band parts? that would sound weird without the rest of the band. does anyone ever think before writing on this forum?
