Pardon me if there is already a thread about this. The search bar seems to be malfunctioning.
I'm in the market for a Piccolo, and I only have $2,000. Does anyone have anything to say about the Burkhart Global Piccolo? What about the different head joint options? The mechanism? The scale?
Thanks so much for your time.

What I can say about Global piccs are they are the best that I have played and tried out of every piccolo under $2000, that is for sure! I was blessed (or cursed?) with perfect pitch so I hear when the slightest thing is off. As you can guess, it does drive me batty when I used to play piccolo. I was SO picky about the scale! The Burakart line had the most even scale throughout for me. Of course Powell and Keef were great too, but I was not looking to spend a fortune for what I needed it for. I went to a flute fair and tried out every piccolo that I could get my hands on and ended up with the best Global piccolo they had there. I just had a professional piccoloist play it at a practice and she had the same to say. I would give you her name, but out of privacy to her I won't unless you really would like to know, then I can contact her and ask her if it would be okay. The other piccolo that people seem to like in that price range is the Emerson Boston Legacy. Nice piccolo, but the scale is just not up to par with the Burkart scale in my opinion. I will be sad to have to part with my Gloabal but I quite the ensemble that I was in and just don't do piccolo work anymore as I started getting hearing problems from it. So, I hate to see it just sit in a closet. If I ever need one in the future though, I will definitely get another one. If there are any other ones that you are interested in, drop me a line. I have tried many! And thanks Suz for providing the link

I forgot to answer you other questions, sorry.
The mechanism on the one I have is nice and smooth with out any problems. I like that Burkart puts cork pads under the trill keys to avoid issues with condensation. I did have a Global a few years back that I ended up selling because the mechanism had a lot of slide in it. I talked to others that have never run across one like that before so it must have been a fluke.
I never did well with wave headjoints before but I ended up loving the one that I picked out to go on my Global. The regular head is also very nice. There is always and option too that through the Burkart company you can upgrade the headjoint for am addition fee (I think is it something like $500?) to the headjoint that comes on their custom handmade models. I use to own a handmade Burkart before my Global and while the headjoint is very nice on them, I actually preferred ones supplied on the Gloabal. I could get a fuller sound on it.
