Too difficult question. There are too many different opinions about brands. Besides you would want to play different flutes and find one that suites your taste in sound if you are looking for an intermediate flute.
My advice:
1) Consider buying a beginner flute, since there are beginner flutes that are really good and would serve you fine until you start to look into advanced techniques. For example Yamhaa 211 is popular.
2) Consider renting a flute. This means a much lower risk for you losing money on a bad deal, and allows you to try out before buying.
3) Get a teacher first, and ask him/her to help you buying. If you are serious about flute, the this is the obvious way to go.
4) Get a good flute player who has experience in buying flutes help you. This is for any flute buiyng, but mainly if you are buying an intermediate flute, and a must if you are buying used. (You should let a technician take look at the flute before buying as well, since you would be very dissapointed to have to spend a lot of money on repairs for something you thought was in good condition.)
5) Read "Flute for Dummies" or another book that has good advice for buying flutes, and describes what to look for.
Good luck, and happy playing! <Added>Should add that I have only played for two years and consequently still count as a beginner.

ause my friend said to me that his flute was old, and they(selmer bundy) are not making flutes like the one he has anymore, maybe he was trying to con me haha |
|
You're friend is probably right! They most likely don't make selmer's like his flute if it's old enough. In fact, Selmer flutes have actually gone up in quality.
I've tried some of the newer selmers and they were surprisingly not that bad. So yeah your friend was probably trying to con ya xD.
