Hi Everyone,

A lot of people have been asking me when they could hear this year's Kobe
Competition winner Daniela Koch. Well, I'm pleased to announce that we will be
adding videos of Ms. Koch's January performance to our YouTube Channel.

You can find the first movement of the Bach Sonata in B minor posted here:

Happy listening and more to come. Subscribe to our channel to get the latest when they are uploaded..

Joe,
Her playing is really pretty nice but her ballet gesture movements are visibly distracting to the point that I'm amazed that the motions don't hurt the flute's tone very much. This accompanist has developed a very interesting ability in this andante at sounding rushed while actually keeping her time. She needs to switch to decaf.

just my humble opinion.

Thanks for video link! wow...

About her movements, I think it's ok as long as it doesn't affect her tone. Another Kobe winner was Pahud, he moves a lot as you can see from all Pahud's videos, he moves a great deal even while sitting on BPO orchestra, he even danced or jumped when he was here with us! He has two very thin transparent pads under his 14K flute to prevent slipery, also he uses 3-point balancing the flute, so there's no problem, his flute is very firm and so is his tone

I think unlike piano and violin, flute players moving (also gestures - look at her right palm angle) doesn't affect much with the new 3-point balancing, I like to move a lot too, without moving or swinging I will feel tense and my brain freezes.

<Added>

I'm not so sure, but to myself, I think people don't move like Blau and many BPO and VPO players, their tone always 100% melt into the orchestra so you don't hear their flute tone stand out, but people move a lot, you can hear their flute tone stand out. Maybe people seek different things, movers are born soloist, and non-movers are born orchestral players, lol. ;)

<Added>

violin soloists move a lot too, right? :)

I find so much movement annoying, more than distracting

I prefer to look at the pianist.. But a beautiful performance anyway.

2nd movement posted.

What would anyone like to see after the Bach?

I have Takemitsu, Kuhlau, Gaubert, Dutilleux (my favorite) and Taffanel on my disk.
