Hi all...

I recently found my old piccolo and was going to put it up for sale, but I'm really not sure how much it's worth. Is there any place I can find out the value of it by using the serial number? And how can I tell if it's real wood or plastic made to look like wood? It is all black with silver keys.

Thanks for your help!

Hello HazyDaisy,

You should be able to contact Bundy/Selmer for information on your piccolo. I tried to navigate their serial numbers but couldn't figure it out since they don't list Bundy piccolos on the site.

Grendilla piccolos have a grainy surface; plastic piccolos are very shiny and smooth.

A Google search shows them going for $200-$450 depending on condition.

Good luck!

Edit: Grenadilla (misspelled)

Sorry, I just re-read your post and realized I misunderstood your question.

Look down the bore of the instrument-- if you see the grainy apperance on the inside as well, it is Grenadilla. If the bore is shiny, it is a plastic manufactured to look like Grenadilla. The smell of the piccolo will also tell you what it is: Grenadilla has a very "earthy"/not pleasant smell. The plastic will be less obvious.
