hi,
although, molly, you may feel that these brands are `junk` everyone feels differently. If everyone thought they were junk then they wouldn`t get sold!

Thank you Molly for all the links. And thank you everyone for the different opinions.
Since this is her first flute I didn`t want to spend a lot of money. I got her a Rosetti Flute. This was one of the cheaper brands on e-bay that I could actually find on the internet being sold in other stores. Hopefully this works out for her. Molly, I will keep the brand you recommended in mind for when she is ready to upgrade to something better and has proven to me her commitment to learn the flute.
Thanks again.
Kristin

"....If everyone thought they were junk then they wouldn`t get sold!"
This is pretty dodgy, naive logic, as demonstrated by the "food" sales at McDonalds.
Most buyers of a first instrument have no clues about brands and quality. They are at the mercy of marketing forces. Some brands have high sales ONLY because the dealers push them hard, and that is only because there is more profit to be made in pushing certain brands.

Fair point, Meme BUT I happen 2 know someone who was quite happy with one of those flutes to start them off. As I said it`s down to personal opinion, so can we stop arguing, no, sorry `debating` on EVERYTHING that comes up!

If what you are saying is that some cheaper flutes are quite OK for beginners, then I totally agree, and I don`t think I ever said otherwise.
"....so can we stop arguing, no, sorry `debating` on EVERYTHING that comes up!"
That is ridiculous. You are asking me to stop using my brain and experience, &/or to muzzle myself. I will never stop debating on any topic as long as I can speak/write and have a brain that works.
What is wrong with debate? Debate is presentation of as much relevant material as possible. That is to the benefit of any participant or observer wanting to seriously consider the issue at hand. Debate is of far more value when it is rational, rather than just based on opinion that often derives from a form of indoctrination (say by marketing forces and non-thinking teachers/players), as often happens in this forum
But by all means, you may muzzle YOURSELF if you wish. :-)

I agree with the last poster because new flutes like First Act and Rossetti just break after a month. I think parents who buy them are very foolish.
Sorry for my two cents worth.

I am not saying that I wish to stop debating, it`s just that I find YOU quite condscending sometimes. You are obviously experienced, anyone could see that, but all anyone needs to do is state their opinion and you bite their head off. That;s how I feel anyway.
