Since this flutist moved in from out of state, my band director has favorited her. As time progresses, it has been more of a problem.
It started out when I was in marching band. I was constantly running to sets and being as productive as possible. Then I noticed that after a while, this girl started copying me. I was pretty excited that I was getting more people into it, but was kind of discouraged when the director made an announcement over the band about how great she was.
Then, there was an audition for a solo (we disn't have chairs yet) and he gave her the solo, claiming that I played the triplets oddly, even though they sounded the same to me. I played the articulations better, but he claimed that she had a better tone even though I thought that I sounded better and I had others come tell me that they thought I sounded much better. I figured maybe I was just pouty.
Then, we had auditions for all district. I made first chair and she was at the bottom. As soon as I figured out, the director started talking about how great she was and how he should have worked with her.
Afterwards, we had tryouts and instead of having us play for the band, he had us go and record on his iPad (no pausing) and somehow she made first chair. Which doesn't make ANY sense.
Now, I know that he's going to try to make her section leader of the section next year, even though I handle the section better. I can handle the rest, but I e seen her try to take over the section. She has no leadership skills and doesn't listen to what needs to be done. What do I do?
