I recently received a bansuri as a gift. I am classically trained, and play all sorts of different flutes. Is there a resource on the web to teach me the Indian system and sheet music notation? Is there a site for sheet music?

Nice to see so much of Indian bansuri.
I have been playing bamboo flute from past 9 years and can play a bunch of classical songs on it.
As a general view no one can teach you better than yourself.
It`s better to practice with someone(in case you are lucky like me as I have a guitar player room mate)
If you are a beginer, concentrate on tone quality and speed of fingers. And that`s the key to learn.
If you are intermediate, concentrate on grace notes and play a lot of Lata Mangeshkar songs which have helped me and a lot of learners.
I was lucky again in getting a cassette of hindi songs on played on flute . So find one for yourself which will be your next guru.
Bye and happy

I would really like a lot of advice on these questions, please!! I have played the flute for 5 years or so, but I have a lot of room to improve, is there anything I can do other than practice for about an hour and a half every night? Is piccolo easier or harder than flute and is it easier to learn to play? What should I do to try to improve my articulation and ombusure?

I just bought the G and C tune flutes. I have also ordered a book that was recommended to me by a friend who knows about flutes:
Learn to Play on Flute (including Shahnai, Been and
Piccolo)
by Ram Avtar Vir
I haven`t received it yet so I will probably post some review once I get it.
I would appreciate if ppl could start posting some tabs for common songs; I would as I figure them out!
To answer one of the previous posts for the basic notes here is an attempt to draw it.

Hi friends.
Recently I have come to know about a guru mantra which can help every single flutist on this planet.
And that mantra is to play the note Sa continuously for as long as your breath can allow.
One important thing...you should get a base flute( the bigger the better)
I have been practicing this method from a few weeks and i was amazed to learn that tonal quality and the control both got increased incredibly. ( I have a E bass flute)
Keep in touch and best of luck.
Pravesh
