I HATE THAT JOKE! Can someone plz agree with me? I get no end of crap at school cos of that joke and I made a bet with one of my friends that I could get 50 flute players to agree that they hate getting picked one with that joke!!!! PLZ! If you`ve been tormented with that joke then give me a reply cos I`m sick of that joke!

My dad`s always teasing me about it for some reason. It doesn`t bother me anymore, just shrug it off. Once they know it doesn`t bother you, they`ll stop because it wont be funny anymore. Good luck!

I know that they`ll stop and I don`t let it get to me, but I wanted to if any other flute players were having the same trouble, and it`s pretty bad when we have the ol` band camps at school!

I swear, I thought I would NEVER here the end of it about that joke. I told so many people off becuz of that. I vowed to never watch those movies becuz i hated that so much. I couldnt agree with you more.

as I have mentioned in this forum before, in my school`s band culture its considered a mark of experience and rank if you can start a clean, perfectly legitimate story with "one time at band camp" and do it with a straight face. If it comes from non-members, its considered a sign of low intelligence, and in rare cases, justification for hitting someone with an instrument case/ flag pole.

Everyday at school, some stupid jock always says, "This one time, at Band Camp," when he walks by our lunch table. They even throw stuff at our table. Sure we sit together and hang out together, but that is what friends do, right? They say we separate our selves from everyone else in the school, just because we are in Band. It`s not like we have a choice. Not many other people wnat to associate with what is called a"Band Geek." My own mother doesn`t even get it. She says I should get more friends out of Band and then I wouldn`t get made fun of. At my school, it doesn`t work that way and I have lost a lot of friends because I am in Marching Band, Indoor Drum Line, and County Band, etc. That makes me so mad that the people I trusted the most are that shallow.

oh I can laugh at that joke, because I dont know what does it mean I live in turkey guys, these blokes around here have no idea what flute is,who are they to tell me jokes

Brittany, I understand your situation. guys, dont you think they tease flautists because they dont understand classical music? admit it, most people dont like it, they find it boring.
If you want to impress people, you should give them what they expect from music: fun.
If they dont think classical is cool, try something else, improvisation for example. you dont have to write your own imp. solo, Ian Anderson for example, has some breath taking partitions.
As I live in turkey, I know that I can impress people just by showing the flute it self but when I play Bourée, esp the improvisation part, they got amazed and somehow terrified by the capabilities of the instrument. I strongly recommend you jethro tull

i really hate this joke. i get so sick of it.

i have NEVER seen american pie..but of corse i know the joke. we were marching to the football field in marching band...and these guys yelled that...so now, its kinda a joke between the flute, we always say it (because we go to `training` before school, and its called band camp..so we all `went` to band camp

but yes, its horribly annoying when other people say it, to be mean

omg i have never seen American pie and i didnt quite get it when sum1 first said it 2 me. i was like huh? its so mean! like 1 day i wore this flute shirt and society is so evil! i say we talk to the producers of american pie. i am young 4 my grade so ppl r always like omg i cant tell u the band camp thing for ur young ears. its horrible. stop the darn joke!
