I get all that rubbish too, it drives me insane! everytime i meet a new person and say i play the flute i get theat joke 95% of the time! i hear ya sis, but we all know flutes are the best so... well, we know we`re right.

Whenever I get that joke, I reply-- Yeah, I went to band camp. Took the bass flute with me.

But my roommate was a bassoonist. Yowch.

*Sighs* For me, I got teased about this endlessly, but for me I started to shrug it off. Soon after awhile, my friends (Who were in band) started getting sick of it, and I gave them this advice:
Does it really matter what people say to you because your in an organization that likes to stand outside in the sun, two hours a day? Think about it this way: If the person saying this isn`t in band then it sort of shows that they don`t want to put forth the dedication to do something like that.

For me, I just shrug it off, and say: "And your telling me this why?" (That is, if they aren`t in the band.) Now if they are, I just laugh at them, because we all have to go to "band camp" for marching pratice during the summer.

hey every1. yea i hate that joke too and its really bad b/c this kid on my bus goes i can see you doing that. was like shutup b4 i pound ur face in. and its also really bad b/c this summer i acctually really did go to band camp hehe. by ex which is a drummer always makes fun of me 4 it and i always go u know drumsticks arent much better. hehe my b/f now (also a drummer) makes fun of me 4 it too, i know i have a thing for drummers but u no hehe. o yea BAND GEEKS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All flautists are geek as well as they are dumb. So when you heard a joke like that, stop talking about it (for ages) and just bow. cheers

It`s not funny. I don`t know why people use it and say it`s funny because nobody laughs at it when someone uses it. However, at my school, you can be a trumpet player and they will use it on you because you went to band camp. I only had that done to me once on Pally (The Palace, if you don`t use it or you`re a newbie on it) when I wore a flute player av and someone gave me a sign that said it. I kept it, then I made a dead fish av that fits perfectly over it. It makes it look better. And what`s even better, I`m a flute player and I`m going to band camp this year... A high c will do just fine. Maybe I should go higher, so that they will actually shut up on the first try.

HEY! Did someone just call the flute players DUMB? How many times have you been "cased" in the head? I`m sure you can`t be any smarter than the flute players if it`s any higher than 20. And you sure are lucky this isn`t an audio forum... Remember the High Note Technique?

And you still dare to call us dumb and geeky... SHAME ON YOU!

Just remember that if you want to look better and smarter, GET A FLUTE IN YOUR HANDS AND START BLOWING!!!

It gets so lame to hear that joke at school.THAT IS THE DUMBEST JOKE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really loathe that joke! So much so that I don`t bother telling anybody except my friends that I play flute, which really annoys me. Still, i just go home and practise that little bit more so I can show all those non-talented people up!

dude, i`ve been playing flute for about 7 years now, and went to 3 band camps. you probably have no idea how much i`ve heard this, but i had fun there, and learned to play better. in fact, my section claimed the joke as their own, we laugh and have fun with it. people are not trying to insult you or anything, so shrug it off. it`s no big deal. it`s childis to make it one.

i don`t know y were all getting upset over this damn joke i thought it was funny. and yeah im in band and marching band and i play the flute. The "jocks" don`t pick on us and we joke aound all the time in class and outsie of class saying sh** like this one time at band camp......

OMG!!!! i hate that "joke" when ppl first started teasing me with that i just looked at them with this dumb look on my face, just because i didn`t know what it meant. but after i saw the movie i basically punched all the ppl who weren`t in band that said that to me. and by the way does any1 know where i can get a Jethro Tull cd in the dallas/fort worth, TX area????

It was a good joke when it came out, and the movie is a funny movie. The people that tease others about it are just immature and looking for a laugh...don`t take it personally.

Besides, is it that offensive? It`s only a joke. Take it as such. Most people aren`t trying to make fun of music or flutes or whatever...they`re just social morons trying to fit in.
