Hi, I was wondering if any of you had tips about controlled breathing. I tend to run out of breath on cold days (it makes it harder for me to breathe), any tips for stabilizing the notes?
thanks

Hello, I had a similar problem when I first started. I got over it by doing breathing exercises; take a deep breath, force it out using your diaphragm. Now, pick a note (Usually C above the treble stave, but it`s up to you.) and blow, trying to fill the room with sound. Play the next note a semitone down, then the note a semitone lower than that. Do this three times then carry on down the scale. It`s boring but you`ll be suprised how much it helps in such a short time. Also, you can try opening the back of your throat to get better resonance. It`s all about the diaphragm and the throat.

I have asthma and cronic bronchtis, and it really gets hard sometimes for to breathe like I`m suppose to. I do breathing excersises also. I also find little ways that I can cheat a little bit, where no body can tell.

Try lying on the ground and placing a book on your stomach. Breath in and out, and make the book move up and down. Work a little every day, and try to make the book move farther each time, it will help you learn to expand your lungs, and make it easier to have good breath support.

i have had pneumonia and bronchitis several times now. and the easiest way 2 breahte better is 2 sizzle a few times a day for 12 or 16 counts as loud as u can. once u have done this hold out a concert f or b flat for the same number of counts as u sizzled. at first it will be hard on the flute but now i can hold a note 25 sec. in one breath.

if ur instrument is either cold or hot it will affect the tone. always try to keep it warm. depending on the temperature it will be sharp or flat.
